By now your Facebook business page has been updated to the new timeline format. In case you haven’t done much more than accept the new timeline format, here are some tips to help you create a fabulous cover photo:
Cover Photo
The cover photo is generous in size weighing in at 851 x 315 pixels and is prime real estate for business page owners. This extravagant space is a magnificent area for a business to showcase its brand or a unique image. This space is visible to everyone who visits your page and the first thing they see about your business. The cover photo replaces the landing page, so it should be used to demonstrate your company’s vision and style. An eye-catching and well thought out cover photo will make your visitors want to hang around, see what you have to offer and “like” your page.
All cover photos are public. Anyone can view your cover photo. (https://www.facebook.com/page_guidelines.php): “Covers can’t be deceptive, misleading, or infringe on anyone else’s copyright. You may not encourage people to upload your cover to their personal timelines.”
Covers may not include:
- Price or purchase information, such as “40% off” or “Download here;”
- Contact information such as a website address, email, mailing address, or information that should go in your Page’s “About” section;
- References to Facebook features or actions, such as “Like” or “Share” or an arrow pointing from the cover photo to any of these features; or
- Calls to action, such as “Get it now” or “tell your friends.”
While you have to stay within the guidelines, you can get creative with your cover photo. Add your website URL, call to action and contact information to your cover photo description. When people click on your photo, the photo description appears on the side, just like any other photo, and there’s your information.
Description of cover photo
Here are a few creative suggestions for your cover photo:
- Highlight your brand. Take advantage of this large space and use short descriptions outlining your services. Use more images than text.
Showcase your brand on your cover photo
- Change your photo regularly. Keep it fresh and keep it clean.
- Add a short one or two sentence testimonial to your cover photo.
- Create more attention by using a catchy slogan and maybe a crazy photo or two. Your cover photo is a big welcome page.
- Showcase your wonderful team members by using a photo of them to give your page a personal touch.
- Create a fan appreciation cover photo with a picture collage of those who “like” your page.
- You can even use a photo of yourself on your page for a personal touch.
